The ghost of 'Skippy the Bush Kangaroo' perhaps!

I have been to Wauchope Cemetery a few times now - my mother is there. And I have seen kangaroos each and every time! I have a shot of them bounding away, too, but my panning was pathetic that day, so everything is a blur.

Looks like this cemetery is well guarded. Now I will hope over and visit the others.

It seems exotic to me to see kangaroos roaming around a cemetery. Cool!

I added to my post where I took the photo - sorry, I meant to do that in the original post and forgot!

Julie said...

Wonderful, Clytie. thank you for that.

I tell you what! It seems exotic to ME to see kangaroos in a cemetery. somehow disrespectful, although I know that has nothing to do with it.

I reckon kangaroo poo on your grave would be a pretty cool thing.

This is going to be a really interesting meme. I'm going to sit down and go through my archives to see what I can add from next week.

Julie said...

Yes, Ann, I agree. The contributions thus far have each been engrossing, and of such a high quality. We will end up knowing much about the dead heart of our country.

I'm already scouting through my pics to find suitable tragics but I'm going to relish the task of getting out and about in local cemeteries - searching out possible shoots and info - that's what I love about photography - there's always something new and exciting to challenge us plus learn more about our local area.
A great idea for a meme Julie!

Thank you, Dianne. It has been an interest of mine for years, and I just knew others would be interested too. I will add West Terrace to my links once today eases down a bit. I am chuffed that you have joined us.

May I take a slightly different approach? I've spent a lovely afternoon looking at all my old albums and, yes, I have some traditional cemeteries and graves but also tombs, mausolea and burial sites of different countries, ages and traditions which I would like to use. They are quite different to what is shown here so far.

Julie said...

Yes, of course. The only thing I would prefer not to venture into the the ouija board, ghost, other-life angle. That is fine as an angle, just not my way.

However, check out what Diane Bohlen has contributed, and you will rest comfortably.

Burial sites of different countries and different CULTURES are incredibly welcome. I will go back up and reread my 'Playing Guide' to emphasise all this. I will be covering tombs and mausolea, and chapels, and landscaping myself as the weeks turn into months.

What I have read so far today has been incredibly exciting. And, I reckon, proves that lots and lots of people had cemetery shots, just with little to do with them.

Post away. I will monitor this blog all week, and respond until Friday night. It is just easier for me on a Tuesday. And besides, I called it 'Taphophile Tuesday' to begin with until I realised that by the time Honolulu gets to Tuesday, Sydney is nearly up to Thursday. So I stretched it out from Tuesday to Friday and changed the title a smidge. I think 'tragics' has a nice self-deprecating ring to it.

I have just found this meme via Mark's blog! So I had to join in!

Somehow the kangaroos seem to accept this space as part of their natural landscape! In many ways, I find it soothing!

Well, what a day! I have learnt so much for each of your contributions. Isn't it amazing how many cemetery images we had stored up in our folders. I easily get 100 images from each and every cemetery I go to - well maybe not the wee small cemeteries. But you know what I mean. Now to get the list of cemeteries up to date, etc.

The kangaroos seem almost surreal.

This is such an interesting idea for a meme. looking forward to learning and researching!

Julie said...

Fiona, Thank you. I will add it to my growing list over the weekend. I went away for two days, and now am well behind. But catch up, I will.

Julie said...

Hamilton, Thank you for your comment. I have seen your contribution to other memes and would welcome your contribution here in Round 2. Research away.

I don't think I will ever see something like this at a Swedish cemetery.

Julie said...

*chuckle* ... quite possibly not, Steffe. But, then again, I suspect these resting gentlefolk, will never experience snow on their markers.

I'm a Taphophile! I'll join soon enough. I heard a really good scoop about one of our oldest cemeteries in Los Angeles that (if true) I'll come back and share

Julie said...

Goodie, goodie, gumdrops. I love scoops. Particularly scoops about cemeteries. I await your return with bated breath!

Congratulations on the first week of your meme, maybe you are building a monster here!
Thanks for the info of Ivy Greber, I should've picked the German connection. I would still like to know why she has a solitary grave on the otherside of the Bora Ring? Will keep digging (bad pun).
Hope you have had a great start to 12. I am back at homebase Grafton for a few days enjoying the heights of my summer garden. THis week yamba, Brisbane, Kingscliff and lots of stopping and snapping in between,my family will go nuts!!!

Mark said...

Yes I think you might be right about that, why would they bury her so far way and right on the fence line.
I have to go to Lismore twice in the next few weeks so I hope to call in a put some flowers on her grave now that you have 'fleshed her out' so to speak.
I also asked a very old Lismorite I ran into the other day about the Greber family and he knew them well, still live around Tuckirimba. His wife told a funny story about getting a phone call from one of them ( no longer surnamed Greber)living in Brisbane and that her daughter was going to Lismore to Uni and was scared she would marry a cousin, LOL! Thanks again Julie for the research.

Julie, I just found your interesting site via Clytie and discovered that I have a name (Taphophile)! I will be around. . . .

Julie said...

Thank you for your visit, Sheryl. Your post is wonderful, both for its text and its rivetting image. I welcome your contribution again in the near future.

Hi Julie, thanks for visiting my site. I've just linked back. I love the 'roos in your header. One of the weirdest roo things I'd ever seen until I saw your header was on my visit to Australia in 1967 my hosts were driving us from somewhere back to Sydney and a kangaroo hopped across the road in front of us, tripped, fell on its chin, and then hopped up and scampered on. I'm sure the roo didn't think it was too funny, but we were certainly surprised!

Julie, you've started a meme right up my alley (found it on Sheryl's blog). I came back here to the first week to check out some of the links, so I'm a tad disappointed they are no longer available. Also want to wish you a wonderful New Year. We were quite connected for some months until about a year ago when I got overwhelmed with work and you stopped playing the memes (and you are right, they are consuming, and I can hardly even make return visits). I still see your Sydney Eye from time to time through my newsfeed. What I have managed to miss entirely is your "à pied dans les rues de Paris" posts - I only just noticed you've kept returning to Paris! C'est dommage ça! Anyway, I have some digital graveyard and cemetery photos in my archives that I can share in weeks ahead. And finally, it doesn't disturb me at all to see the kangaroos roaming around the cemetery. :-)
